Leichhardt Creek which has been in the same family since the mid 1950's, affords a real opportunity to acquire a good-sized high-quality operation with scope for further development and improvement. It is being sold on a WIWO basis with an outstanding functional EU accredited Brangus, Brangus cross herd of approximately 2120 head. The Freehold property has a total area of 13 576.8 Ha or 33 534 Ac (approx.) and ideally located with its good access off the Bruce Highway just SSW of Home Hill and within 2 hours of Townsville.
Leichhardt Creek has a valuable mix of country and strong soil types, varying from cleared or previously cleared Cat X (White Zone) areas to lightly timbered Ironbark and Bloodwood rolling ridges that rise into productive and useable range country. There are large areas of Goldfields country with reddish soils, leading out onto loamy alluvials along creek frontages interspersed with strong areas of black soil. There is also 600 acres that has been recently re-pulled and stick racked in Bobs Paddock.
Grasses established on Leichhardt Creek include Urachloa, Indian Couch, Black Spear with strong areas of Seca and Verano Stylos and with small establishments of Wynn Cassia and Townsville Lucerne. Some success has been had with small areas of Reclaimer Rhodes Grass and there is a small trial area for Leucaena which at this point is about to be planted.
Leichhardt Creek is well watered with the property bisected by 5 main creek systems which provide a number of semi-permanent seasonal waterholes, some of these holding for over 80% of the year and supplement the overall water supply. There are 13 bores, 6 equipped with Solar, that feed an extensive network of tanks and trough via mainly 2" pipe plus 3 dams.
Fencing is generally in fair to good order and mainly 3 barb. The property is fenced into approx. 21 paddocks plus some smaller holding paddocks and interconnected by 4 laneway systems and holding squares.
The very good quality EU Accredited breeding herd comprises mainly Brangus / Brangus X with a small percentage of Brahman cows. This herd has been well managed and improved over the years with careful selection of bulls, with the end result of fertility, quality, functionality and temperament being the main focus. Breeders are control mated and consistently achieve calving percentages over 80%. There is an estimated carrying capacity of 2500 and the property has two PIC numbers in place.
Improvements on Leichhardt include the main homestead, 2 cottages, quarters and a machinery shed / workshop. There are two sets of cattle yards with the main complex of steel construction and fully equipped and watered.
