Blackall is a small rural town located in the Blackall-Tambo region in central west Queensland. With a population of around 1,000 Blackall’s friendly locals are always ready to give visitors a warm welcome. Blackall became a thriving outback township in the early years due to its strong wool industry which remains a dominant industry today. You can still explore the region’s wool heritage at the historic Blackall Woolscour, the last remaining scour in Australia, a virtual living museum. Holding the reputation as the Arts Capital of the west, Blackall exhibits an outdoor gallery of public artworks created by both talented local and renowned artists, ranging from scrap metal sculptures, wool carvings, painted murals and large bronze sculptures of the town’s most famous. In 1885 Blackall drilled the first artesian bore and visitors today can still go relax and revive in the natural waters at the Blackall Aquatic Centre spa and pool.
